During transfers, the lifting belt will remain sturdy and durable for ambulation of patients and will prevent the caregiver from injuries or back pain.

How To Use a Gait Belt

Need a few tips to remember when transferring patients to ensure risk-free results? We have you covered! When transferring, make sure the gait belt is securely fastened and that the patient cannot easily undo the belt. Remember, transfer belts may not be suitable for patients who recently had abdominal or back surgery. When using the Sammons Preston Gait Belt always have a layer of clothing between the belt and patient’s skin to avoid abrasions. For all transfers, more than one caregiver may be needed. Finally, before moving your patient ensure that he/she is as close to you as possible during the transfer.
